NH Campground Puts Its Emphasis On Friendliness our philosophy is that if you are friendly the campers will come.

They did come. Goose Hollow Campground near Waterville Valley has become one of the most popular places in the northeast for group camping rallies.

The popularity of safari groups has not turned off the vacationers, weekenders and one-nighters. Neither has it affected the campground's seasonal (those who stay all summer) business.

      Its some
175 sites have been full on many weekends.

One of the secrets of the campground's success is that it is a friendly place everyone, whether they are with a group or by themselves, is encouraged to mingle and be friendly.

Groups are not segregated to a distant field. Everyone camps in the open area between the woods and the Mad River with mountains in the background. There are no signs that read "Seasonals only."

In a directory folder handed out to everyone who registers, campers are urged to follow the simple Goose Hollow philosophy: "Be NICE." It reads: "Goose Hollow is a NICE campground, in a NICE location, with a NICE staff, NICE facilities, NICE rates, and most importantly, NICE campers."

Though groups are encouraged to enjoy meeting other campers, they are together in little sections. " We have several areas, so we can take more than one group at a time," Goose Hollow takes groups of 10 or less and up to a hundred or more. A GM motorhome group of 300 filled the campground on a September week. " one of our seasonals voluntarily gave up his site so we could get the entire GM group in." she said.

There are other features that appeal at Goose Hollow. They have a welcome bonfire with free desert every
weekend weather permitting. The group wagon-masters like it that " we can cater meals for 15 up to more than 100 people."

When asked about the campground. "Yes, I love it, love it," she said. " When I look out my window it's like a Norman Rockwell picture. Couples are going by holding hands. The kids are playing in the fields. Everybody waves good morning or good evening. It's just a NICE neighborhood."
